News 15/04/07 USKSF International Tournament 27-29 July 2007 The USKSF International Tournament is a prestigous tournament held every year in Boston in America. Teams from all over the world compete in a variety of different categories including sparring, tradtional forms, and 2 man sets. This year, Leeds Met Hung Kuen will be sending a team to Boston to compete in this international tournament. This is a fantastic oppurtunity to compete on an international stage and win glory for yourself and for our school. If you would like to participate and represent your School and your University on an interntional level then please contact one of the commitee ASAP We are hoping that Leeds Met will be able to offer us support in terms of funding our students for travel and accomodation but of course we must also take this into our own hands. As such we plan on holding a number of sponsorship events to raise money for our club. The first of these events will be the Carnegie Great Student Run more information on this can be found on our home page. 18/02/07 GUNG HEI FAT CHOI! Happy new year! With this site remaining dormant for so long, the new year is a fitting time to dust off the cobwebs and update! With the hardworking attributes of the Boar in mind, a new gallery has been added for your viewing pleasure! As your probably already aware, to celebrate the new year, we are offering free lessons to Leeds Met students and staff, and details are on the home page. Sports Ball The date has been given for the Sports Ball, it will be held on 12th May at Elland Road. No need to be buying tickets just yet, but scribble it in your diaries. We are pleased to inform you that this year the date doesn't clash with a national tournament, so we are expecting a decent turn out this time! Thats it for now, dates for the tournament and upcoming senior gradings will be posted later on this week. 22/04/06 Welcome Back Hope you all had a good easter, training restarts on 24th April at the usual time and place. Tournament The tournament is getting very near, and the date of the tournament is Sunday May 14th. Once again we are offering a single free entry into the tournament for all Leeds Met members. The deadline for free entry will be Wednesday 3rd May so make sure you either download a form from the tournament section of this website, or obtain one from one of the comittee and get it filled in and returned as soon as possible to Helen. Once again we will be taking the minibus, so please let us know if you need a place on the bus ASAP. Meeting times etc will be posted shortly. New Committee Member Unfortunatly Helen our current secretary is unable to take up the position of Chair next year due to unforseen circumstances. Lawrence has been brave enough to offer his services and take up the position of Club Chair, and I'm sure he will do very well. 23/03/06 Easter Break Not had an update for absolutely ages but here we are. Nothing too exciting this time either. The last training session for this term is Wed 29th March. Training will restart on Mon 24th April. However as usual there will most likely still be a few of us kicking around and doing some training at the usual time for the Wednesday session and this is a good oppurtunity to practice what you have learnt. Especially if perhaps you are going to enter a form into the tournament, or maybe you are practicing for your blackbelt ;p New Comittee We have a new comittee in the shape of Helen, Dylan and Chris, who will be taking the positions of Chair, Sec and Treasurer respectively. The new comittee will become active sometime in May. They will surely do a fantastic job and we all hope to see the club carry on its success. Tournament Yes its relatively far away but please start thinking about this now. It would be nice to see some more forms this year! The date for the tournament is 14th May. Some of you may notice that this is the very next day after the Sports Ball! This is quite a blow to those wishing to don there finest and boogy down as well as managing to pull of at least a half decent performance in the tournament. After much discussion in the club it has been decided that we will try and have a do of our own on a different date. Details to follow but rest assured we will try and make it as fancy as we can! Until the next time... 27/01/06 Welcome Back Hope you all had a good christmas and that! Its been a long time since the site was last updated but there you go. Not much news really, some pics from the christmas party are now online for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to everyone who came to Sam's leaving do last saturday, not many newbies turned up but there was quite a few old skool crew which was fun! Theres a few pics from that and a bit of video of Sam dancing which is quite amusing. They will go online shortly. Tony's Birthday Next week there is a social planned for Tiger Tony's birthday. We will be going for a meal, most likely at Little Tokyo so make sure you come out, itll be tasty! 1/12/05 We Told You It'd Be Fun! Well done to everyone who entered the tournament it was a cracking turnout and everyone did really well! Special mention goes to Sam for getting to the semi-finals of the tournament, but having to stop the fight because he broke his hand into three! Fortunately Tara was on hand to drive us all home in the minibus! Theres some pics of the meal online, and a DVD will be made shortly, although unfortunately we didnt manage to capture absolutely everyone, the simaltaneous bout malarky was difficult to film! Hoodies Well we found the hoodies again so get em while you can! We only have a limited number, once they're gone, they're gone forever! They do look cool and will keep you warm over christmas. They might even make good pressies! And at £6 each its a bargain. Christmas Party! Well its nearly the end of term which means its almost time for a big night out! We are planning to get a V.I.P room booked out in oceana, its very swanky and you get waitress service! It'll be the last wednesday of term hopefully, more details to come soon!
7/11/05 Are You Ready? Ok then this Sunday is the tournament! I hope you are all looking forward to what we hope will be a great day out for all! Pretty much everyone has handed in their forms, I thank you for that! I think its the most people ever to have entered the tournament from our club! Ok everyone who needs a place on the minibus or in a car need to contact Helen ASAP if you have not already done so we need numbers so we can make sure everyone has a space. Plan - Everyone meet up NO LATER than 8.30am at the steps to the Met Bar at City Site. We are not waiting for anyone! The tournament will finish about 5, after which we will head back to Leeds. Those who want to stay out can do so, while most of the normal people will probably go home and wash the fight residue from our stinking broken bodies. We will meet at a yet to be designated place, we will decide on Sunday probably, most likely at 7.30 Then we will go to Jades chinese restaurant for a really nice meal. I believe it is £8 for a 3 course set meal, cheap as! Loverly. THEN we will get drunk in Leeds, if you have done really well then we might be able to get a VIP room booked just for us at this new fangled super club complex Oceana! You Will Need - - Hung Kuen Uniform. All freshly washed and ironed, ready to be shoddy and stinking at the end of the day. - FOOD! This is the second most important, as you will become very hungry. We might stop for petrol on the way but its unlikely so there will be almost certainly no chance for you to buy some on the way, and boy will you need it! Bring breakfast and lunch, the best thing is pasta and some fruit or perhaps a nice filling sandwich. - DRINK! This is the most important thing of all. You will need fluids. Water is probably best but i guess isotonic drinks might give you an extra boost when you need it. - Money. Thats right you skinflints you will need hard cash for the meal and and any oompa loomas we meet on the way. - Hung Kuen Licence. What? You don't have one? Who the hell are you again? OUT! - Leeds Met SU card. See above. - Mobile Phone. Have at least one of the comittees phone number in your phone so you can ring us if you get lost our you are kidnapped by some burly 5-a-side football players. Oh, and it might be a good idea to have a conact number in your phone clearly labelled ICE so we can ring them if you get your head knocked off by a jumping spinning 720 reverse axe death kick, or something. I guess MUMMY or DADDY will do just fine. Well thats all I can think of so lets have a smashing time! Good Luck!
18/10/05 Tournament! Right then its almost time for the first tournament of the year. It's good news for you lucky lot this year because we have enough cash in the club funds to cover everyone's entrance fee's. However we don't have a bottomless reserve so the club will only pay for a single event. You can enter more but you'll have to pay for extra events yourself! Please please please let us know ASAP if you are coming so we can organise the minibus etc. In order to receive your free entry you MUST have your entry form filled in and handed into one of the comittee by Wednesday 2nd November. If you fail to do this then the club will not be able to pay your fees, you will have to pay for yourself and you may well not have a place on the minibus. No exceptions, if the form's not filled in then tough titties. A downloadable entry form and more details about the tournament can be found on the new tournament section of this website. Bowling The next social will be to the bowling alley for some skittle related fun. It will be on Wednesday 2nd November. Which means you will have handed in your competition forms by then so you can relax! Meet at the usual place, Met Bar for 7pm, go bowling, then hit the bars afterwards. 29/09/05 NUS CARDS There are still people turning up expecting to be able to train without a valid Leeds Met SU card. GET ONE!!!! SU Website The forum is now up and running on our webpage on the SU website, use it if you need too. Forums are generally a good way to find stuff out, ask questions etc! The page there will be updated regularly but this site remains the authority on all things Kung Fu. QUAZAR! Yes you read it right! Next wednesday a trip to Quazar at LA bowl is taking place. All those wishing to go meet up in the Met Bar for 7pm sharp. We will then wander down, as its quite a way we'll stop in a pub for a rest and a drink! Then some crazy quazar fun then into town for simpler pleasures! It costs £1.25 for NUS cardholders Tournament Video Update Apparently the amount of actual competition in the tournament teaser video was a little stingy, so more has been added. Watch it in the Special Video section. 19/09/05 Welcome Freshers Another year, more new Kung Fu brothers and sisters. If you're a fresher and you havn't read the freshers intro then read it here. Training begins on the 26th Sept. Go to Training Times to find out when and where. All the best to any new members, please make sure you have a valid NUS card before joining the club, and a sports pass, which can be purchased at the reception of the Civic Quarter Gym, and Becketts Park Sport Centre. Old Skool Any second years returning this year, congratulations! You now have the experience and knowledge to pass on to your younger fellow students. Lets hope they learn something useful! No excuses when it comes to the Tournaments either, you know what to expect! Make sure you have a new sports pass and NUS card, which goes without saying, and the sooner you pay Master Ang membership the better too. See you all on Monday! By the way were organising some kind of welcome back/freshers thing but dont know what yet, suggestions welcome! 11/08/05 Snaps Lots pics of the tournament added in the gallery section! Also check out these pics of The Manorlands Demo! Fresh start The dates for the sports fair are as follows, Wednesday 21st Sept at City Site and Friday 23rd Sept at Headingley Campus. Hope you are all enjoying your summer! Isn't the weather just lovely? Massive update in the video section, a grand total of FIVE new videos added, including a demonstration at Manorlands in Keighley, some more forms and finally a video added to the fun section! Enjoy! More on the way. Training? Ok for all who are still in Leeds you will be glad to know that the martial arts room at City Site is free all summer, so as from now an informal training session will be held every Wednesday at 4pm until 5.30pm. Use the session to practice forms, keep up flexibility and perhaps learn some new skills.... And don't forget Kai's and Dan's Class on Saturdays, Sam and Martin will be going pretty much every week so anyone is more than welcome to hitch a lift. So to recap, thats Wednesday at City Site 4pm till 5.30pm and Saturday at Keighley 2pm till 4pm! 9/6/05 Tournament Gone Well done everyone who entered the tournament, no one was injured too badly (apart from simons foot) so a success! The next one is 13 November! Their is a new teaser video in the specials section. A vcd of the tournament is available should anyone want one, just email Martimus with your address and you'll get one in the post free of charge to all Leeds Met Hung Kuen students. Training? Well it's finished now officially but wednesdays are a possibilty for some training at the usual place, as soon as something is final it will be on here. Dont forget Kai and Dan's class in Keighley. We are meeting outside the steps to the Met Bar at 8.00 in the morning. No exceptions. Their are plenty of drivers so we'll sort out who's in who's car in the morning. Or maybe this monday whatever. Bring food because it will be a long day and you will need to eat! Bring breakfast, lunch and tea because you will need it, and plent of liquid. The plan afterwards is to boogy on down in a bar somewhere in Leeds then get something to eat, probably go to Jades or whatever. Lastly, Good Luck! The end is near The 23rd of May is the official last day of training. However, as always a number of us will still be kicking around, and we will probably still meet up on mondays and possibly even wednesdays, the nice gym receptionists don't seem to mind us jumping around much! New sister club Great news! Our resident seniors Kai and Dan are opening a club in some random village not far from Ikley! This is great news for anyone wanting to train for the summer or just get in some extra Kung Fu. I believe the class will be on a saturday at 2pm from the 21st May, anyone interested the ask Kai or Dan about it. A link to their website will be made available as soon as its up and ruuning 24/04/05 Bendy ladies and hardcore monks WOW! How good was the state circus? Now its time to work off the extra Beer and Gravy you've all been stuffing yourself with and prepare for a new year of Kung Fu! I'm sure everyone will be pleased to hear the tournament has been slated for May, rather than March. This gives us a few extra weeks to train during term time. We're also pleased to announce the Leeds Met Hung Kuen 'hoodies' have arrived! Albeit a little late.... So if you want one of these extremely chic pieces of sports wear then you can purchase them from one of the commitee. And they are cool! We can all wear them to tournaments and stuff and look fab. Tiger Tony's Birthday Bash Its Tony's birthday on wednesday! The plan is as follows : finish training, have a quick one in the union, either stay at the union and drink some more (it is cheap) or go home and get yourself a shower (you will smell). Then we all meet at Jade's chinese restaurant and have a slap up meal. Then into town for a boogy. If you are coming let someone know so we can be organised. The meal should cost no more than £12-13 per head but it is worth it! 19/12/04 Unfortunatly we cant get the rooms booked out for pre-new year training. However, we will still be training on the 10th and 12th of January in the usual places. This is why you should always check the site for developments! Plus check the links section, there is a new link to a set of Tan Tui diagrams which you can use to aid your training, although they are a bit hard to make sense of. Something for you to do over Christmas! Again i have a good Christmas and New Year. See you all in 2005 when we will be going HARDCORE with training to work of those chipolatas. 14/12/04 Not been an update in a while but hey. Well done all those who entered the tournament. Special mention goes to Chris for getting a massive split lip, and still carrying on! Well, for a bit anyway. We'll get some photos up soon, Training Officially Finishes This Wednesday 17th Dec and restarts 17th January. However, Sam, Mark and Myself will be training on the following dates, 20th, 22nd December 10th, 12th January We'll probably try and learn some backflips, aerials etc as well so if you want to come along, then please do. We'll be in the usual places for the particular day. Hopefully you will all have a good Christmas and new year, see you when you get back!
21/11/04 Well, i think i speak for all that came on Thursday that it was a great success. The acts were top rate. Tears of laughter could be seen on many a face. And the beer came in JUGS! Three cheers for Chloe and Faz for organising a top night out! Check out the pics to see for yourself. Some more Ball photos turned up as well, so check them out too. One question remains - 'Where next?'. Hope those who are entering the tournament are ready, its this Sunday! If your not entering and are injury free then why not? Its a great way to 'test your might', and basically have a good time. Your padded up, it doesnt hurt too much, its just like playing Tekken! If your not entering then you should come anyway to see what its like and to give your Kung Fu brothers and sisters some much needed support. Prize for who can shout 'KICK HIM IN THE FACE!!' the loudest. Scroll down for more details and a map. Make sure you bring food, cos you will get hungry. We'll be going out into Leeds after as well Also, check the links section. Loughborough Hung Kuen have a forum up and running which might be good to use.
02/11/04 Now then. All you new guys please refer to the etiquette section. It is important to follow these guidlines especially if you are late. That includes existing members!! It seems we have become too relaxed. Remember bow to Master Ang when he arrives, he is your Kung Fu Master! ALSO GET YOUR MEMBERSHIP PAID! If you dont then you cannot continue training as you will not be insured, you wont be able to compete or grade. You need to pay Mark £4 for student union insurance and £30 to Master Ang for your Martial Arts Licence. I believe the social to Jongleurs has been confirmed as 18th November. Make sure you tell Chloe or Faz that you want to go cos we need to pre book. Give them a text or buzz, or alternatively email me, whatever. 26/10/04 A good start to the year, lots of new faces in the club. Or is that fresh meat for the grinder? All of you new guys should be training hard, you'll be grading soon for your first belt. Lets not forget the tournament either, Make sure you train hard so you dont puke after the first round. the event will be held on 28th November at the Oldham Sports Centre in Lancashire. More information and maps can be found here On to more relaxing topics, i believe Chloe and Faz are planning a social to Jongleurs comedy club very soon, possibly this thursday. Give them a text to find out where we are meeting if you dont see them on wednesday. (their attendence is waning of late) |
